It is owned by the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's son Bilal Erdoğan and other family members,[1] Mustafa Erdoğan and Ziya İlgen.[2] In September 2015, it was reported in Today's Zaman that BMZ had purchsed two tankers, Armada Fair and Türkter 82, for US$ 36 million, increasing their fleet to five tankers, all of which are 140m long, 16m wide, with a 7100 deadweight tonnage (DWT) capacity.[2][1] In November 2015, it was reported by The Verge that BMZ Group has been transporting illegal ISIS, Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, oil, thus funding the organization's illegal operations. BMZ Group maintains wharfs in Beirut and Ceyhan from which Japan-bound BMZ Tankers are transporting ISIS smuggled crude oil.
