Le nombre de mots utilisés en anglais augmenterait en moyenne de 14,7 mots par jour, soit un nouveau néologisme accepté toutes les 98 minutes. Selon les linguistes, l'ensemble des mots (et expressions) utilisés dans la langue de Shakespeare aura atteint exactement 1.000.000 à 10:22 (heure de Greenwich) le 10 juin 2009. Le dictionnaire Oxford contient plus de 600.000 mots et expressions.
