djalti 10 Posted October 11, 2008 Partager Posted October 11, 2008 Jimmy Cliff - Reggae Night [DM]xsiof_jimmy-cliff-reggae-night_music[/DM] Jimmy Cliff, de son vrai nom James Chambers, est un chanteur de reggae jamaïcain né le 1er avril 1948 à Sainte Catherine (Jamaïque). C'est un des artistes reggae qui s'est le plus ouvert à d'autres formes de musique, ce qui lui a valu une très grande notoriété internationale puisqu'il toucha un public plus large. Il commence sa carrière avec un 45 tours de Ska en 1963, Miss Jamaica. Son premier album « Hard Road » sort en 1967 mais il faudra attendre le très célèbre film « The Harder They Come» pour qu'il soit vraiment découvert du public. Ce film aujourd'hui culte avec « Country man » lui permet d'interpréter la superbe chanson « Many rivers to cross » et le grand succès « Sitting in limbo ». L'album du même nom sorti en 1972 deviendra un des albums reggae les plus vendus dans le monde. Cela va permettre à Jimmy Cliff de faire des grandes tournées internationales durant les années 70. L'artiste va sortir plusieurs albums durant les années 80 comme « House of exil » en 1981 ou « Power and glory » en 1983 et"Hanging fire" en 1987. Mais ce sera le single « Reggae Night » fait dans un style beaucoup plus pop, qui relancera sa carrière de façon beaucoup plus significative. Jimmy Cliff va alors enchaîner les albums (une dizaine au total) durant les années 1990. En 2003 « The harder they come » va être réédité en version "deluxe" et Jimmy Cliff sortira ensuite « Black magic », album dans lequel il fait de nombreux duos avec des artistes aussi diverses que Wyclef Jean (The Fugees) ou Kool and the gang, Bernard Lavilliers et Yannick Noah.
